The photos below showcase my process from ideation to manufacturing this design's prototype.
Dancing Stool
In my wood studio project, I designed and constructed a stool using larch wood. The objective was to explore wood as a primary material for furniture-making in Finland. I aimed to emulate the dynamic, organic shapes of tree branches in my design. Considering the properties of wood, such as strength, durability, and grain pattern, larch wood was an optimal choice. Its robustness makes it well-suited for furniture construction. To achieve the branch-like form, I utilized a turning machine for shaping the legs. For assembly, I employed a CNC machine to create precise holes in the top, ensuring a secure fit when gluing the legs. This method yielded a seamless joint between the top and legs, enhancing both aesthetics and structural integrity.
