This project is about creating a place where people can connect with both the sky and the earth. The idea started from a simple need: to feel closer to nature, to the stars above, and the ground beneath us. The observatory isn’t just for watching the sky but also for reminding us of our deep connection to the natural world.
The concept is based on creating harmony between the earth and the sky. That’s why the location was really important. I chose a hilltop near the village of Chelesban in Markazi province in Iran, where the cold and dry climate is perfect for an observatory. The elevation also gives the height needed for the observatory dome and the main telescopes.
To make the connection with the earth stronger, the design places part of the building underground. This lets visitors experience the quiet, cool, and dark feeling of the soil, something that also helps keep the space calm and ideal for observing the night sky.

Perspective View of the Residence's Private Yards - Each resident's room has its own private yard with stairs that lead up to ground level. Since the rooms are underground, the yard also brings in natural light and fresh air.

Aerial View of the Entire Observatory Complex - The observatory dome is placed at the highest point of the site, connected by a straight path to two central yards. The first yard leads to public spaces like the restaurant and library. The second, larger yard is shared by the residences and serves as a space for gathering and social interactions.

Perspective View of the Residence's Rooms - The residences are located underground, with large windows facing the yards to bring in natural light and create a connection to the outside.

Axonometric View of the Observatory

The lowest level floor plan is about 12 meters below the hilltop. It shows a large common yard surrounded by seven private residences. The library and restaurant are also located at this level.

This level is about 9 meters below the hilltop, just above the lowest floor. It includes a common yard that leads to the office, service areas, and toilets.
